April 25th observation

Today it is raining and Sydney,me, and Sara rode up here and when walking into my class everyone seemed to be very sassy and moody. even the teachers seem a bit aggravated today. at the beginning of class when the kids were supposed to be working on bellwork they instead argued and talked. and also payed more attention to a teacher getting on to a student more than their work.

today we are going over graphing and quadrants. the kids seem a bit confused on the subject. but Mrs. Ried  is doing a good job at explaining it. in the middle of teaching a child complains of not feeling good and almost immediately after another student gets a nose bleed. she sends them both to the nurse together and continues teaching. apparently this is their last day of working in the math book. I think the math book is a great way of teaching. they can look back at their past lessons. right now they are doing a lesson on dragonflies and their statistics on how many typically perch when they land.

now they are having some work time. I think I will present my student teacher next week. and how they have the rest of the period to do prodigy and iready.

Observations for march 28th

It seems that Mrs. Reid has a very predictable setting when it comes to materials. today was my second day observing but I am just now getting to blog it today (april 15).

she always uses her chrome, projector and the math book for the students. I like this because the student are used to it and it's easy for them to work with every day. my favorite thing about the class is how comfortable they are. they are not afraid to have fun conversations. they have conversations and respect boundaries the teacher has set.

a child in our class felt sick and the parents couldn't pick them up. so Mrs. Reid let the child take a nap. I think this shows how she respects and cares for her students.

My favorite method of teaching she uses is a reward system called DoJo points. this makes the students very competitive and willing to answer things out loud. I feel like it can help the students become more comfortable talking in front of their peers over time.

I love how she does not allow the students to disrespect her. all the students seem to have a mutual understanding that she is in charge of her class and they are to respect her.

I think observing Mrs. Reid has made me realize I do not have the capabilities to become a good teacher at this moment. maybe this opinion will change over time but I do not think I could do what she does on a daily basis. watching a teachers lesson plan pan out is interesting.

I think Mrs. Reid is an amazing teacher and she does a great job at explaining and keeping the children comfortable.

middle school observation

Today I was a bit late, we had traffic because of the play and sydney forgot her car was at the jr high. so we had to walk. when entering the class the kids were already working in their math books. class seems a bit too quiet when i first walked in. they do ATLAS testing next week. i also plan on doing my lesson plan that week. i didn't get to do it tuesday like i planned because we were working on our projects for our competition.(10:40)...10:50- Mrs.Ried talked about report cards and their current grades. students seemed a bit worried about them....10:55 we talked about unit rates and Mrs.Ried does a very good job at explaining things instead of just writing things down and expecting the kids to know what she means.

11:03. Mrs.Ried talks about how math can rewire your brain in ways that make learning and absorbing things easier. so even if you don't use math every day it still benefits you. after that they got back on the subject of graphing with one variable. this was on page 596 of their work books. after they did that they went over it...now they are on pare 807 and are looking at values that are solutions of inequalities. all the kids seem a bit drained.

we are now working on a coordinate planes worksheet, the students seem to be getting this down easily. today was a bit boring and stressful

Presentation time with the preschoolers.

 February 22, 2024

Today I went to the preschool to present my book and story board. I was sort of nervous to start but I know the kids since I work there so I believe I have an advantage. when we first arrived, Mrs. Lisa greeted us and let us choose what class we were going to be in. and of course I chose room 8. It is my favorite room and they are very well behaved. as soon as they entered the room from playing outside I was greeted with hugs and giggles. once I got them to calm down (with the help of Mrs. Melissa and Mrs. Amber of course.) they were easier to manage

I introduced myself to the ones who weren't familiar then asked if they wanted me to read them a story. with screams of excitement they approved of the idea. I was less nervous than when I first walked in. then I started reading it. And I stuttered a bit but little kids don't seem to mind those things. I got to the part in the book where I talked about the families ignorance and their need of emotional healing. I don't think that part should have been included.

then I started on my story board and man did they have a lot of opinions on my board. some called it a work of art while others thought the trees looked like broccoli. that's okay in my opinion. they sure do have wild imaginations. I also introduced the characters to them. one student in particular got the theme very quickly. first I showed Terry the tiger turtle. the student exclaimed "MRS ADDISON IS THAT A TURTLE THATS A TIGER?". and I told the student how they were correct and I think that made their day. I went one with the presentation and I sat in there for a little bit just chatting with them. then I went to room 9. blain inman was in there before me and his presentation must have been very entertaining. the students were still talking about his cool sea creature counting. and soon they calmed down and we started on my story. this time I didn't stutter. but my board did fall a couple times. after both my book and board were presented I handed my puppets around. lets just say that wasn't a good idea. terry and daisy look a little rough.

but after all was said and done, I think all the intro to ed students did a wonderful job. and I think going down there and having to perform for them will greatly benefit us in our future.
